Executive Summary

In September 2005, the author presented an investigation comparing the costs of processing gravure cylinders and web-offset plates. This investigation was a follow-up of a study he made 20 years ago when he was the Secretary General of the European Rotogravure Association.

In the 1986 investigation, a relationship of 3:1 was found in favor of web-offset plates calculated per page (or surface area)—i.e., a gravure cylinder was three times more expensive to process in relation to a web-offset plate with the same surface area, in this case an A4 page (210x297 mm).
