Director of Operations
For more than 45 years, Tony Donato has been at the forefront of industrial-level manufacturing supporting the printing industry. He now brings his skills to the Gravure Association of the Americas as Director of Operations – with expertise in leadership in the areas of paper machinery manufacturing, plant and facility engineering, production and safety training, technical customer support, application sales, and product development. His additional responsibilities with the GAA include identifying and evaluating trends, innovations, and the evolving commercial landscape of gravure printing to the extent that it impacts our printing, publishing, and supplier members.
Tony also brings the GAA and its members the benefit of his countless hours working as a pressroom operator with a special talent for troubleshooting and problem solving for anilox rollers, gravure cylinders, doctor blades, chambers, and other mechanical aspects of printing. He has also personally developed flatbed ink proofers that can reproduce Gravure or Flexo printing.
Prior to coming to work with the GAA, Tony most recently retired from Harper Corporation of America where he served as Product Development Engineer for more than 14 years. He also spent more than six years as an Application Engineer for Benton Graphics. Tony holds degrees from Purdue and Winthrop Universities and is trained in TQM, ISO and environment compliance. He first became FTA FIRST Certified in 2011, and renewed his certification in 2015. As well, Tony is a board member of the Phoenix Challenge Foundation, a group dedicated to the promotion of printing especially Flexo education and he serves on several different educational advisory committees. Has been attending PLGA & GAA conferences since 1999 and has been a presenter and moderator at several PLGA & GAA conferences.
